Day 1

Kochi

Brunton Boatyard, Kochi

Brunton Boatyard, Kochi

I'm afraid I haven't been able to download any pictures yet but here's the hotel I'm staying in tonight just for a little taster. http://www.temptingplaces.com/boutique-hotels-en/hotel-luxury-fort-kochi-india/hotel-brunton-boatyard.

Yes - they've got us staying in a four star hotel for the first night, and as I got here a day later I've got the room with the sea view! I think this has been a very gentle introduction to Kerala, and the culture shock definitely hasn't quite hit me yet. We head to a town nearer the village we will be based in tomorrow, where we'll meet the teachers and some more of the organisers of the project - I think this is when the penny will drop that I'm not just on holiday.

Kerala is beautiful - even from the plane I could see how green and lush it was and the runway brought us through the palm trees the state is famous for. For the foodies - I had pomegranate and mint soup for lunch with a delicious soda, fresh lime and sugar drink - just don't stir it up as it explodes like a volcano :)
